The cross shows us:
1. God’s Justice — He is holy, and so punishes sin.
2. God’s Justification, that He is the Justifier — He is loving, and so pardons sinners.

1. The cross shows us God’s Justice — He is holy, and so punishes sin.

God had been so patient in “passing over former sins” that He could have appeared to be unjust.

Consider how easily pardoned David was by Nathan. Withholding punishment has the potential to make God look unjust. How can He withhold punishment without compromising His holiness?

If you want to know how God feels about sin, look at the cross. Looking at scripture closely, we see that the cross was more for Himself than for us. But that doesn’t mean He that loves us any less. It just puts His love for us into its proper place.

2. The cross shows us God’s Justification, that He is the Justifier — He is loving, and so pardons sinners.

If you want to know how much God loves sinners/loves us, look at the cross.
