1. Consuming Anguish Over His Brothers (I Can’t Stop Crying), v.2-3
2 Corinthians 6:8-10
2. Substitutionary Curse Bearing for His Kinsman (Take Me Instead), v.4
The next day Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, if you will forgive their sin – but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.”
21 In that same hour [Jesus] rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 22 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 23 Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”
41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it… Wait… isn’t he the sovereign Son of God… didn’t he just say that he reveals the Father to whoever he chooses… wasn’t he entering Jerusalem in triumph… to save… the answer is yes… and yet… when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.
